Smile Communications Uganda has lately been in the press with rumors of potential closure involving poor financials and license being revoked by the telecom regulator the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). It was all sparked off by an article New Vision’s print media.
The company has come out to explicitly inform its customers through an emailer drafted by the company’s Country Manager Mr Bader Mohamad, that they are here to stay, remain committed to their customers and are still fully operational.

We wanted to make you aware of an article that recently appeared in local daily newspapers, purporting that our operations were shut down by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
We categorically refute the information in this article as factually incorrect and malicious and wanted to affirm that our services are fully operational. Smile’s telecommunication licenses have not been revoked by the UCC.
We will continue to offer excellent 4G LTE internet services across Uganda, whilst supporting you to enjoy true 4G LTE voice, data and SMS services.
We remain committed to our investment in Uganda and want to assure you of our continued and ongoing service to you.
Thank you for being a part of the Smile family.
