From day one, Instagram always stored images in a 640×640 resolution, this past Friday, it seems it has started pimping up the resolution in HD, as photos sent to the popular image sharing app are now being stored in a higher 1080 x 1080 size. This means your beloved Instagram photos are about to get prettier than ever.
Instagram started bit by bit rolling out the new resolution to iOS and Android last week. The social network’s source code also reveals that new photos are being stored at 1080p resolution. Meaning that most people should already be seeing the higher-resolution images in the mobile app. The upcoming resolution was discovered in the source code on Instagram’s web view which showed that new photos uploaded to the photo service are now being saved in 1080px resolution.
