Hive Colab and Outbox Hub among the 2015 beneficiaries of the UCC incubation support Initiative
Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is at forefront of developing, identifying and tracking the usage of ICTs and how they contribute in the future of Communications for all in Uganda. This year, communications regulator has awarded three incubation hubs under their Incubation Support Initiative (ISI) that was established in 2011 as a strategic mechanism through which potential ICT start-ups or innovative ideas in Uganda have provided vital supplements to facilitate them. UCC incubation support 2015 goes to Hive Colab, Outbox Hub and Bomix Soft Motion Graphics who have been awarded with huge sums of cash help the starts-up under their wings advance into commercially viable and sustainable businesses that can facilitate the development of the ICT sector, generate employment growth and contribute to the growth of the economy.
The Incubation Support Initiative (ISI) is specifically aimed at facilitating access to funds, facilities, skills and/or services needed for growth of technological based businesses, innovations and technology transfer. It also aims to supporting establishment of facilities likes tech Hubs that provide a learning environment for new and upcoming ICT businesses. Promoting collaborations between the academia, industry, government and young enterprises in advancing Communications.
Through ISI, UCC wants to ignite contributing to building Research and Development (R&D) as well as innovation capacity specific to communications sector or ICT industry as facilitating contribution of R&D and innovations in growth of the Communications sector in Uganda.
The 2015 beneficiaries of the UCC Incubation Support Initiative are announced as follows:
- M/S Hive Colab for award of the Incubation Promotion Subsidy in the amount USD 45,000
- M/S Outbox shall also be awarded incubation support amounting to UGX 23,948,050
- M/S Bomix Soft Motion Graphics Team for the award of the Seed Funding to the tune of UGX 15,800,000
