Signing up for WhatsApp has always been a breeze, there was no need for email addresses, all that is needed is your mobile number and you can use the service. Facebook wants to offer something similar, starting today in selected countries, you can sign up for Facebook Messenger even if you don’t have an account with the social network. No more signing up with email addresses as Facebook only requires your first and last name, phone number, and a photo to get started. The company wrote on it’s blog that:
[signoff icon=”quote-circled”]”With this update, more people can enjoy all the features that are available on Messenger — including photos, videos, group chats, voice and video calling, stickers and more, People can easily message with their Facebook friends and contacts, access their Facebook messages, and take advantage of multi-device messaging across mobile devices, the web, and tablets” [/signoff]
This move has been predicted to bring in new users to supplement the existing 700 million monthly users. But the company says there are still significant benefits to signing up for both. The new Messenger is available in the US, Canada, Peru, and Venezuela. Other countries to be added soon.
