Several rumors have surrounded this new device and after a long wait, the iPad Pro is here. The new huge iPad has been announced today and this marks a new era for Apple into Microsoft Surface territory and as Apple CEO Tim Cook (pictured above) said, it’s the “biggest news in iPad since the iPad.”
Spotting a huge 12.9-inch display, the new iPad Pro comes with a resolution of 2732 x 2048 giving 264 ppi, and makes use of the new iOS 9 features like split screen. The width of the iPad Pro is the same as the height of the iPad Air 2. Apple is using the same technology from its iMac with Retina 5K display to bring the iPad Pro pixels to life enabling them to slow the display down and save battery.
Inside it’s using Apple’s new A9X processor, and the company claims is 1.8 times faster than the previous chip it replaces. Graphics on the iPad Pro have doubled in terms of performance, so it’s clearly going to be a fast device for games and productivity apps. Apple claims it is faster than 80 percent of the portable PCs that shipped in the last 12 months.
As usual Apple tradition, the iPad Pro will last 10 hours on battery with the ability to edit three streams of 4K video simultaneously and we think is close to desktop performance. The iPad Pro has a four-speaker audio system and Apple’s software will balance the sound dependant on how you’re holding the device.
New Apple Pencil and Keyboard
For those who remember the launch of the first iPhone will know how much Steve Jobs hated the stylus, well now that he is gone and productivity apps clearly need one, Apple has introduced what they call an Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil has sensitivity sensors so you can press lightly for brief strokes or harder for wider strokes. This is already possible with the Samsung Galaxy Note series. Apple claims it feels like a true writing or drawing instrument. Apple Pencil can be recharged using a Lightning connector that plugs directly into the iPad Pro.
Just like the Microsoft Surface, this huge iPad Pro can also be used with a Smart keyboard. It’s covered in a fabric that forms the structure for the keyboard.
The iPad Pro also comes with Touch ID sensor and support for LTE. It has an 8-megapixel iSight camera on the rear, and a FaceTime HD Camera at the front. Apple is planning to release the iPad Pro in November in silver, gold, and space grey finishes. You will be able to buy a 32GB model at $799, while a 128GB version is priced at $949. If you want to opt for LTE then the only choice is the 128GB model that comes in at $1079. Well just to be clear, the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard will be sold separately at $99 and $169 respectively.
