[/blockquote]Airtel Uganda will soon have a new boss. Anwar Soussa has been appointed Managing Director for Airtel Uganda effective 1st June 2016. Mr Soussa has been an MD in Airtel Chad a position he has held since May 1st 2015. He replaces Tom Gutjahr who has been MD since 1st August 2014. Soussa will lead and drive strategic business growth in Uganda. Airtel is one of the biggest telecoms in Uganda with over 7 million subscribers and comes at a time when the mobile industry is dominated by MTN in voice and Mobile money and the likes of Africell and Vodafone ranking high in data services. The company recently launched a new 4G – LTE network upcountry and we hope the new MD will drive the company towards a triple play (Voice, Video and data) centric network.
Commenting on the appointment, Airtel Africa’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Christian de Faria said: “I am confident that under Anwar’s leadership, Uganda will continue to consolidate its position while providing the best in class services to Airtel customers in Uganda. Anwar will focus on strengthening our external stakeholder relations, consolidating commercial capabilities and help build a superior network.”
Soussa, who has had a long stint in the telecommunication industry in Africa, joins Airtel Uganda from Airtel Chad and previously was in MTN Cyprus where he served as the Chief Operating Officer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the American College of Greece and a Master of Science degree in Marketing from Concordia University, Canada. Soussa takes over from Salia Gbane, who leaves Airtel on April 30th 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the American College of Greece and a Master of Science degree in Marketing from Concordia University, Canada. (PTI)
