As we prepare for the One Area Network project where East African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan will scrap roaming fees by December 1st, Airtel Kenya has revealed that it will reduce call rates to Rwanda by 60 percent and also offer free incoming calls for postpaid and prepaid customers. Of course this is a reactionary move after after Safaricom reexamined its tariff rate in Rwanda. Safaricom set the bar high by offering its customers up to 60 percent discount while roaming in Rwanda.
Airtel Kenya’s outgoing calls while roaming in Rwanda will now be charged at KES 10 per minute, which is a significant decrease from KES 25 per minute. The new rates apply to customers making calls from Kenya to Rwanda and customers making calls from Rwanda to Kenya.
