Africell and Tecno launch the Tecno Boom J8 smartphone in Uganda
Today Tecno Mobile together with Africell Uganda have launched the formers much anticipated music phone dubbed the Tecno Boom J8. It’s a follow up to last year’s Tecno Boom J7. The J8’s design is a complete departure from its predecessor with a real estate screen size, taking on the phablet form factor and does away with a curved back.
Tecno says the J series is its line of music themed smartphones like C is for the camera enthusiasts. The Boom J8 speaks volumes about its music roots since Tecno partnered with Maxx Audio to craft the device’s s music experience.

Milad Khairallah, Africell’s Chief Commercial Officer said Africell was committed to giving their customers the best of the telecom service. “We will continue to unveil products, services and innovative give-aways for our subscribers who have made us the number one telecom network in Uganda. The launch of high-end brands like Tecno with our service is part of that belief and commitment”
Milad closed it off “Africell is the network for those customers who want innovation, quality of data and voice at a reasonable price”
The Boom J8 is the first Tecno device to host the brands new custom called HiOS. This means all future Tecno devices will have an identical software experience atop Android, to differentiate them from the crowd akin to Samsung’s TouchWiz. Tecno also promises OTA (Over the air) updates with HiOS in the due process.
Price & where to buy from
The J8 is available at all Africell retail outlets for as low as 499,000UGX. With it Africell has bundled a free 4G Sim card & 3.5GB of data valid for one month. A Tecno representative however confirmed that the Boom J8 will be available on the open market but couldn’t clarify the exact price it will sell for besides Africell’s.
